Catherine Nelson Grange, Au.D.
Doctor of Audiology
SPENCER, IA CLINIC
Dr. Grange graduated with honors from the University of Iowa with her bachelor’s degree in both speech and hearing science and Spanish. She obtained her Doctor of Audiology from the Arizona School of Health Sciences. Dr. Grange works with her brother, Dr. Paul Nelson at their father’s audiology practice.
Dr. Grange is a fellow of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology, a member of the Iowa Hearing Association and a member of the Tinnitus Practitioners Association. As a board certified Doctor of Audiology, she works closely with family physicians and internists as a consultant, providing evaluations and hearing services to their patients. She specializes in tinnitus, commonly known as ringing in the ears. While she works with patients of all ages, she especially enjoys helping children. The youngest child she fit with a hearing aid was just six-weeks old!
Dr. Grange is originally from Ruthven, IA and now lives in Spencer with her husband and three young children. In her free time, she enjoys playing the piano, singing and hosting large family dinners for her extended family.
Paul D. Nelson, Au.D.
Doctor of Audiology

Dr. Nelson graduated with distinction from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in both speech and hearing science and linguistics. He obtained his Doctor of Audiology from the University of North Texas. Dr. Nelson works with his sister, Dr. Catherine Grange at their father’s audiology practice.
Dr. Nelson is a fellow of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology, a member of the Iowa Hearing Association and a member of the Tinnitus Practitioners Association. He works closely with primary care physicians to ensure that any hearing related issues are managed medically in addition to rehabilitation. Dr. Nelson utilizes the latest technological advancements in hearing assessment and rehabilitation. He is also committed to helping his patients hear better by educating them on the causes and possible treatment options for their hearing loss.
Dr. Nelson is originally from Ruthven, IA and now lives in Fairmont, MN with his wife and three children. In his free time, he enjoys being an active member of his church and playing guitar in the church band.
Tracy Sullivan, M.A., CCC-A
Licensed Audiologist
LE MARS AND SHELDON, IA CLINICS
Tracy graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in communicative disorders and then went on to received her master’s degree in audiology. She received her Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She is also a member of the Iowa Hearing Association.
Tracy takes pride in staying up to date on the latest technological advances in hearing instruments and assistive devices. Her main areas of interest include adult and pediatric diagnostic testing and hearing instrument solutions. Tracy’s favorite part of her work is being able to spend time with each patient to understand their daily life and how their hearing impairment is affecting them. She is then able to recommend the best hearing aid for their individual needs.
Tracy is originally from Radcliffe, IA and currently lives in Le Mars with her husband and two daughters.
R. David Nelson, Au.D.
Founder, Emeritus
Dr. Nelson grew up in Milford, IA. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Augustana, his master’s degree from The University of Iowa and his Doctor of Audiology from the Arizona School of Health Sciences. He began his career more than 50 years ago helping patients with communicative disorders as a teacher of the deaf. He founded Nelson Hearing Aid Service in 1976, which has since grown to include five different clinics in three states.
Dr. Nelson has served as president of the Iowa Association of Hearing Health Professionals, was a founding member of Hearing Aid Management Systems and was a longtime member of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology.
Even though Dr. Nelson is now retired, he enjoys stopping by the office to see and visit with his former patients. He devoted more than 50 years of his life to working with the deaf and hard of hearing.
Dr. Nelson lives with his wife, Julie in Ruthven, Iowa. He has four adult children and many grandchildren. His large garden, apple orchard and guitar keep him busy.
